It is plastic or reinforced nylon, & won''t scratch
I like mine! At under $10 call it disposable. You can grind it down if the spline teeth get stripped on the end! I just think it feels good and works great. My cordless drill also has a hand crank, so maybe I am a bit nuts, but it wont skitter across the top of a guitar and ruin the finish, and neither will this tool. Anyone who has worked with a spruce top arch top, or spruce drop top pre 1960 Gibson double neck knows where I am coming from. Those dent really easily! We know what real PAF era Gibson stuff costs. $10 for a light tool that wont dent a top seems OK to me! When it gets stripped I just grind it down a bit and use it again. The USA side is more prone to this, but the knurled nuts were pretty cruddy and old too! 1958 was a long time ago!
